Square D® Clipsal® Area Lighting Panels Provide Localized Daylighting for Commercial Buildings - 5/16/2007 |
|
PALATINE, Ill. — May 16, 2007 — New Square D® Clipsal® Area Lighting Panels from Schneider Electric are a simple, convenient way to realize daylight harvesting schemes in an individual conference room or suite within a commercial building. They are ideally suited to meet energy code requirements related to reduction in lighting loads by integrating natural light with artificial light.
Area Lighting Panels offer the flexibility of being set up as a stand-alone system or connected as a part of a larger Square D Clipsal network. A simple Cat 5 cable connection gives the pre-engineered enclosed panels the ability to integrate light-level detection, occupancy detection, keypads and switching. Along with ease of network connectivity and simplified programming, Area Lighting Panels also provide easy installation and reduced field-wiring costs.
"A conference room or suite can have a keypad and a light-level sensor connected to an Area Lighting Panel via Cat 5 wiring, and the panel will set the lighting scenes when executed or alter the lighting based on natural light levels," said Scott Jordan, Square D Clipsal Product Marketing Manager. "However, a building could have multiple Area Lighting Panels linked together to a Square D Powerlink® panelboard with an NF3000G3C web-enabled module, thus allowing the panels to be controlled via the Internet."
Outfitting a conference room or suite with a Square D Clipsal light-level sensor allows an Area Lighting Panel to automatically dim lights to capitalize on available natural light. When using Square D Clipsal occupancy sensors, the panel automatically turns lights off after everyone leaves. Additionally, various pre-programmed lighting scenes can be automatically executed by the panel by pressing a button on a Square D Clipsal lighting control keypad.
Area Lighting Panels provide unparalleled installation flexibility for electrical contractors. They provide the ability to integrate Square D Clipsal keypads and Square D Clipsal light-level and occupancy sensors without the complexity of line voltage wiring connections – a single Cat 5 cable is all that is required in most applications to connect the inputs to a panel, which may be mounted in either an electrical closet or ceiling space. Power is distributed to the panel from a single home-run connection to the power source. Consultants will find that designing rooms in a commercial building with a focus on energy savings and tasteful lighting scenes is easier, because there is less wiring complexity.
Area Lighting Panels consist of a NEMA 1 enclosure with Square D Clipsal DIN rail-mounted, microprocessor-based output modules. Several options are available, including a four-channel relay output package, an eight-channel relay output package, and four-channel relay and four-channel 0-10V dimming packages. Relay models have four or eight robust 20A relay outputs and are available in both 120V and 277V. Dimming models are available in both 120V and 277V and include four 20A relay outputs and four 0-10V outputs for control of dimmable fluorescent ballasts, such as the Advance Mark 7, Osram Sylvania Quicktronic® and Universal Lighting Technologies SuperDim®. All Area Lighting Panel configurations are available with a power supply, which provides extra power to the network when multiple keypads or sensors are required.
Square D Clipsal Area Lighting Panels meet NEC Article 409/UL 508A requirements; Short Circuit Current Ratings for 120V models is 65kA, and 14kA for 277V models. All panels are custom configurable with Learn Mode or C-Bus™ Toolkit software, and include a start-up bypass mode.
